Kids Riding Horses

Please check the calendar page to see dates and times of all classes.

Hidden Fox Farm offers English hunt seat (balanced seat) horse back riding lessons year round for children as young as 4 through adults, beginner through advanced. Each rider needs to have long pants, boots with a small heel, a riding helmet* and water bottle. Gloves are also recommended, especially for young children.

Our lesson year is broken up into semesters: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Each semester consists of 12 weeks of riding, normally with one or two weeks reserved for make-up lessons. New riding lesson students may begin at any time during a semesters. Each semester, except winter, is paid for the entire semester, or may be broken up into 2 half payments. Winter semester is the only semester that students may pay PER LESSON as we do not adhere so strictly to schedules due to the nature of winter weather, holidays and frequent student illnesses.

*Hidden Fox Farm does have a limited number of riding helmets for students to use as needed, but it is advisable for everyone to have their own.

Hidden Fox Farm is proud to offer a truly remarkable program for young equestrians. Our beginning riding program is unique to our farm and is offered at various times during the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters.
Beginning Riding is designed for kids 8 and up who have very limited or no horse experience. During each 90 minute hands on class students will ride for a short time and also learn many aspects of basic horsemanship such as haltering, grooming, safety, tacking, nutrition and more. This class is designed to give each student a good foundation in horsemanship and is the perfect starting place for anyone who is just curious about horses to those wishing to become pro riders. After the six week course is finished students wishing to continue their equestrian education may choose to repeat the course as often as liked, or go into group lessons!

Show Team
Horse back riding is also a competitive sport, and for students who would like to take their riding career to the next step we offer a Show Team. We compete monthly at local hunter and schooling horse shows. Students who wish to be a part of the Show Team may sign up for an evaluation in late February or early March of each year. There is no age or skill requirement for students to be on show team, just a willingness to learn and work hard! Show team students are required to attend two riding lessons per week and compete in at least 4 shows per year. Students who are not ready or are unsure about the commitment of show team may have the opportunity to compete at select schooling shows throughout the year to see if showing is right for them.
Horsemanship

There is more to horses than just riding. At Hidden Fox Farm we highly encourage our full time students to complete at least 6 volunteer hours working at the barn per semester. While students are volunteering they will also be gaining valuable horsemanship skills that will stay with them a lifetime. Duties may include, bringing horses to and from fields, helping younger students tack and untack, cleaning stalls, grooming horses, feeding, general barn care and more.

Horsemanship volunteers must be taking at least one riding lesson a week, have completed Beginner Riding and be at least 11 years old, or have instructor approval.
