Hidden Fox Farm
ride. learn. thrive
Why We're Different

At many barns, the main focus is on winning ribbons week after week. While we value competition and believe horse shows are an important part of a rider’s education, we see them as just the beginning.

At Hidden Fox Farm, our goal goes beyond the prize—we help riders grow into well-rounded horsemen who are confident, capable, and kind.

Our riders learn to be versatile and adaptable. We use hunter shows as a foundation for beginners, giving them structure and experience, but we also introduce them to new challenges and adventures—like jumpers, gymkhana, and even the time-honored tradition of fox hunting.

Beyond the show ring, we take riders into open fields, across varied terrain, and over natural obstacles. These real-world experiences build confidence, courage, and a sense of independence that only comes from working in partnership with a horse.

Our mission is simple: to create riders who can handle anything, anywhere—and who develop a lifelong love of horsemanship along the way.
We know our approach isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. We’re here for families who believe in the value of hard work, perseverance, and genuine connection with horses.

At Hidden Fox Farm, riding is about discovering courage, grit, and joy—not pampering, shortcuts, or quick wins. We raise adventurous, thoughtful riders who truly love horses and take pride in learning the right way.

Here, we don’t just teach kids to ride. We help them grow into capable, confident young people—learning lessons in the barn that will stay with them for life. We take pride in keeping the spirit of true, old-fashioned horsemanship alive—where respect, hard work, and partnership come before ribbons or status. Our riders earn their progress through effort and heart, not by “paying to play,” and that’s what makes their achievements so meaningful, and our barn unique.

Trainer Diane Lane has spent most of her life with horses. Before moving to Virginia, she worked as an assistant trainer at a hunter/jumper stable in Southern California, where she competed successfully on the A-rated hunter circuit, earning numerous Champion and Reserve Champion titles across the state.
Diane expanded her riding career to include steeplechase and Thoroughbred racehorses, as well as field hunters and show hunters. She rode as a licensed jockey in both flat and steeplechase races throughout the United States. While living in Middleburg, Virginia, she embraced the hunt field and became a professional rider for fox hunting horses and ponies.

Diane holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with an Equine Industry specialization from Cal Poly Pomona and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Hood College. She is also ARIA, CHA, and SafeSport Certified.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Diane is a devoted homeschooling mother of six, blending her deep equestrian expertise with her background in early education to create a thoughtful, structured, and encouraging training environment for riders of all ages.

Petey and Layla are our resident barn dogs. Petey is an old American Bulldog and Layla is a small young mix of who knows what. Most of the time these two can be found laying in the shade, chasing cats or begging for food.

Every good barn has good barn cats, and Hidden Fox is no exception! If you spot a cat in the distance, that's just one of our many feline employees. Simba, Cindersoot, Dutch and Ditto may grace you with their presence, but more than likely you will see just a glimpse of their tail as they dart out of view.

We currently have 6 lesson horses/ponies, plus other privately owned horses, sale horses and horses in training. We are always getting new animals, some stay for a short time, while others call Hidden Fox Farm home forever. We get donkeys, goats, cows and the occasional black snake. There is always someone new to welcome you!
